Early 19th century clothing took a sudden and distinct shift in style from the extravance of the 18th century. Women’s gowns became simpler and less ornate. Gone were the huge skirts, tight stays and extreme hairstyles in favour of high, small bodices, delicate pastel fabrics and a hint of ancient Greece.
